Welcome
Fernwood is a lifestyle development situated in the foothills of the majestic Cathkin Peak. Surrounded by the Little Berg and overlooking the Champagne Valley, Fernwood is the place to come home to.
Fernwood has 24 chalets positioned to allow privacy on a picturesque 230-hectare property, with stunning vistas afforded to every unit. The Fernwood share block company was established in the 1990’s and is in sound financial form. Your annual roster allows you use of your unit for 3 to 4 calendar weeks that rotate annually to afford you a relaxing breakaway over the seasons.
All our chalets are fully equipped and vary between 6 and 8-sleeper units. The open-plan living areas lead onto verandas with amazing views, giving you an instant connection to nature. The kitchens are well equipped and daily cleaning services at no added cost ease you into relaxed mode. For cold winter nights, the units are equipped with fireplaces.
The competitively structured yearly levy covers all maintenance and housekeeping needs. This model is especially affordable as you share the ownership costs with 7 other shareholders in the same chalet and with the body of shareholders in the share block company. You will also have the use and enjoyment of the entire farm with its bird life, walking trails, some species of game, horse riding, tennis court and a clubhouse.
Fernwood’s location in the Champagne Valley provides access to many leisure facilities, restaurants and shops. The Champagne Valley is a desirable location for many modern families and its location between Johannesburg, Bloemfontein and Durban places it within fairly easy travel range. The climate is moderate in the summer and the mighty Drakensberg range catches warm air from the Indian Ocean that leads to mild winters; yet seeing snow on the high peaks and even on the Little Berg is not uncommon.
Your family fun days can vary from a breathtaking hike to a leisurely visit to a nearby spa, a relaxing round of golf or a thrilling canopy tour followed by a hot air balloon ride. The Monks Cowl Parks Board entry gate provides access to long hikes across the Drakensberg range with caves for overnight camping. The Champagne Valley is also one of South Africa’s newest wine regions with three new wine estates currently being established.
Fernwood consists of 230ha of pristine mountain property adjacent to the UNESCO Okhahlamba World Heritage Site. Fernwood’s proximity to the Park ensures that it falls in the UNESCO buffer zone that ensures its protection for generations to come. Fernwood is a registered Site of Conservation Significance and also belongs to AMAFA due to the rich San rock art present on the property.
Please spoil yourself with a visit to this magnificent property that offers lots of space and privacy.
